What we're about

What we're about

These 3 things are at the heart of what we do at Christ Church Hemel:

1) Word

Gospel

Simply, the gospel is the good news that Jesus came to save, to put our broken world right by saving people from their sin through his life, death and resurrection.    We’re centred on the gospel of Jesus Christ, because that is what God’s word (the bible) is all about.

Proclaiming

God works by his Spirit through his word, and so when his word is faithfully preached, he is speaking.  Expository preaching from the bible is central to our Sunday services and we take the bible seriously in all of our meetings together as a church.

Living

We emphasise that the whole of the bible is central in all we do and we desire to see the impact of that more and more throughout the church and our lives.  Just as Jesus came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many, so we happily serve each other and Hemel and point them to the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.

2) Community

Saved into community

We’re made for community, not for living in isolation.  The gospel creates a new community, the church isn't just a social club or a weekend event, it’s a family of people united together in Jesus.  So, we encourage one another, love one another, teach one another, bear with one another.  Church is family.

For the community

Hemel Hempstead is a vibrant and growing community with people from all sorts of different backgrounds.  We don’t just speak the gospel, we also live it out through our attitudes, love and kindness to each other and those around us.

3) Mission

Sharing the good news

We’ve got the best news ever to share, it’d be crazy for us to keep it to ourselves!

The gospel is God’s power for salvation.  We want people to see for themselves the life changing power that the good news of Jesus has.  It’s not a list of rules or a self-help guide, it’s the story of rescue from sin and death, of relationship won with the God who made everything.
